Awards Presented at The Rural Health Association of Tennessee Conference

Commissioner Susan Cooper, Tennessee Department of Health, presented the awards at the Awards Luncheon segment of RHAT’s 14th Annual Conference.   Congratulations to all for improving the health and well-being of Tennesseans.

Rural Health Worker of the Year  was presented to Trudy Stein-Hart, M.S. for multiple health care initiatives in Montgomery County, addressing weight loss, exercise and nutrition.  Additionally, she has been instrumental in developing the membership of Tennessee’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition to over 400 members working to reduce cancer in the state, meet the goals of the state’s  cancer plan, and enhance reporting to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Mayor Rex Lynch of Anderson County, whose work has provided new water lines to rural areas of the county and the development and expansion of dental services and operatories.

Loudon County’s Physical Education Program won the Special Exemplary Project Award.  Recipients C.J. Martin and Marci Joy innovatively used Wii fitness training exercise games in their physical education classes at North Middle Schools and are growing the program with additional hardware and software.  

Janita Oakes, MSSW, PhD and the Integrated Care Partnership were recognized with the Award of Merit for collaboration between Centerstone and rural Columbia Pediatric Clinic to link behavioral health and primary care services.

Presidents’ awards, recognizing those with outstanding contributions to RHAT’s programs were presented to Paula Postai, Sandy Hayes, Betti Wilson, Sandy Halford, and Dr. Michael Caudle.
